As a Java Developer you are responsible for the technical design and implementation of java-based business applications. As a Java developer you will work on RESTful APIs, SOAP services as well as standalone (RAP) applications, most of which use a common business logic layer. As a developer that takes end-to-end responsibility of your product, you will also have to help improve our CI/CD pipelines, support test automation of the applications on all levels, and work with DevOps engineers to guarantee stable environments and provide fault-tolerant and highly reliable solutions. You will work within established lifecycle methodologies and practices, in accordance to project plans while carrying out your responsibilities related to design and development. This may include maintaining program libraries and technical documentation of the individual components within an application. This also involves providing enhancements and ongoing application support to the deployed application.


  • Alignment with your product owner and agile team members and understanding the business requirements for insurance solutions
  • Together with the team, create a common understanding of the business requirements and design a technical solution that follows best practices
  • Understanding the target domain of the applications – the insurance domain and the business and technical context of the customers
  • Design and implement Java applications
  • Correctly utilize extension patterns offered by our development frameworks to customize, replace and extend existing functionalities
  • Implement standardized APIs that allow for a flexible integration of various external systems with the applications
  • Learn and identify new Java-based technologies to fit business needs and configurations
  • Create unit tests for the applications, backed by a mocking framework

General competence requirements

  • Professional and intellectual IT ability at university level -at least Bachelors degree
  • Expertise in software development and OOP design patterns with Java
  • Mastering efficient software development techniques, version control systems and IDEs
  • Knowledge of relational databases and ORM frameworks
  • Experience in unit testing, mocking frameworks and clean coding practices
  • Working-level knowledge of agile methodology
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude and end2end mindset
  • Analytical and conceptual skills with high problem-solving competence
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
  • Experience with Python & Angular is nice to have
